Our Philosophy

With a focus on strong technique, versatility and excellence, CJS Dance Academy and our team of fully qualified staff are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where students are encouraged to work hard and develop a love of the performing arts.

We believe that dance training encourages young people to develop a positive self-image. Along with improving coordination skills and developing muscular awareness, dance classes give children the freedom to express themselves through movement whilst learning valuable lessons about respect, commitment, discipline and team work

The highest educational standards are expected from all CJS Dance Academy staff members. They are lifelong learners who continue to educate themselves through certification programs, teacher-training schools, conferences, online courses and other learning opportunities.

At CJS Dance Academy, our classes are designed to stimulate the enjoyment of dance while laying an important foundation for further training. As the student advances, the variety and intensity of the class work increases. Optional exams in ballet, tap and jazz give students markers of their progress and can lead to internationally-recognised qualifications.

Our Team

Chelsea is an accomplished teacher and choreographer with a wealth of experience.

Born into a performing family, she grew up in her mother’s prominent dance studio in Sydney and learned all styles of dance from a very early age.She was trained in RAD Ballet and ISTD Tap and Modern as well as jazz, contemporary, hip hop and drama by a host of well-known teachers and finished her schooling at McDonald College and Newtown High School of the Performing Arts where she received top marks in both dance and drama for the HSC.

Following high school, Chelsea went on to university where she studied journalism and after a cadetship with The Daily Telegraph she was made the newspaper’s arts editor and chief dance critic at just 23 years of age.

But the pull of the pointe shoe ribbons was too strong and Chelsea decided to return to the dance studio after 15 years as a journalist and gain her qualifications as a teacher in both RAD Ballet and ISTD Tap and Modern. She is also a member of the CSTD.

Since then she has gone on to train and coach countless students in all styles of dance with excellent results in exams and professionally in both Sydney and Brisbane where she is now based.

Chelsea’s former students are dancing all over the world for organisations such as the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, Sydney Dance Company and Carnival Cruise Lines.

With a focus on strong technique, versatility and a view to equipping students to pursue professional careers, Chelsea is dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where students work hard and also enjoy their dancing whilst gaining perspective on the industry and its demands.
