CJS Dance Academy is a respected dance school in the western suburbs of Brisbane.
Under the direction of Chelsea Clark-Spresser, CJSDA offers classes in classical ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, hip hop and musical theatre with a fully qualified faculty of teachers.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in exams and eisteddfods as part of our Eisteddfod Team.
With a focus on strong technique, versatility and excellence, CJS Dance Academy and our team of fully qualified staff are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where students are encouraged to work hard and develop a love of the performing arts.
We believe that dance training encourages young people to develop a positive self-image. Along with improving coordination skills and developing muscular awareness, dance classes give children the freedom to express themselves through movement whilst learning valuable lessons about respect, commitment, discipline and team work
The highest educational standards are expected from all CJS Dance Academy staff members. They are lifelong learners who continue to educate themselves through certification programs, teacher-training schools, conferences, online courses and other learning opportunities.
At CJS Dance Academy, our classes are designed to stimulate the enjoyment of dance while laying an important foundation for further training. As the student advances, the variety and intensity of the class work increases. Optional exams in ballet, tap and jazz give students markers of their progress and can lead to internationally-recognised qualifications.

CHELSEA CLARK-SPRESSER (AISTD), DIRECTOR – Ballet | Tap | Jazz Technique
Chelsea is an accomplished teacher and choreographer with a wealth of experience.
Born into a performing family, she grew up in her mother’s prominent dance studio in Sydney and learned all styles of dance from a very early age.She was trained in RAD Ballet and ISTD Tap and Modern as well as jazz, contemporary, hip hop and drama by a host of well-known teachers and finished her schooling at McDonald College and Newtown High School of the Performing Arts where she received top marks in both dance and drama for the HSC.
Following high school, Chelsea went on to university where she studied journalism and after a cadetship with The Daily Telegraph she was made the newspaper’s arts editor and chief dance critic at just 23 years of age.
But the pull of the pointe shoe ribbons was too strong and Chelsea decided to return to the dance studio after 15 years as a journalist and gain her qualifications as a teacher in both RAD Ballet and ISTD Tap and Modern. She is also a member of the CSTD.
Since then she has gone on to train and coach countless students in all styles of dance with excellent results in exams and professionally in both Sydney and Brisbane where she is now based.
Chelsea’s former students are dancing all over the world for organisations such as the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, Sydney Dance Company and Carnival Cruise Lines.
With a focus on strong technique, versatility and a view to equipping students to pursue professional careers, Chelsea is dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where students work hard and also enjoy their dancing whilst gaining perspective on the industry and its demands.

Elise trained at Monika’s Dance Studio since 2003 and has been teaching since 2015. In 2016 Elise completed a Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) at Dynamite Studios Academy on the Gold Coast and also holds a Certificate IV in Dance Performance and a Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management.
Elise has recently started the RAD Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies and is very excited to start this next chapter.
She has trained in numerous styles including RAD ballet (achieved up to Advanced Foundation Level), jazz, tap, hip-hop, contemporary and acrobatics.
She has performed in corporate events for Evolution Agency and appeared in a number of children’s entertainment performances through DS Agency and Showtime Attractions.
BREANNA CARTER Tap | Jazz | Musical Theatre | Hip Hop | Acrobatics | Street Tap
Breanna trained at Monika’s Dance Studio since 2002 and in that time she has competed in the performance team representing MDS.
Most recently, she has completed her Certificate IV in dance performance majoring in Tap. In 2018, Breanna will commence her Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management. After the completion of her Certificate IV, she plans to complete a Bachelor of Education to further develop her qualifications.
Over the past few years Breanna has had multiple choreography and performance experiences, such as; choreographing for High School Eisteddfod Teams and performing in Remix, House of Champions and the David Jones Christmas Parade (2016-2017). In 2014 and 2015, Breanna was mentored by a well-known Academy of Brothers Hip Hop performer who ignited her passion for Hip Hop.
Breanna has always had a love for the arts, performing has brought her so much joy and she is now looking forward to sharing that with all her students.
OWAIN KENNAIR Acrobatics | Street Tap
Owain is a Brisbane-based Dancer/ singer/ actor who discovered dance from a young age.
Owain has studied a huge collection of styles including: Musical theatre, Commercial Jazz, Hip Hop, Acrobatics, Tap, Salsa, House, Singing, Drama and many more.
After high school, Owain completed a Diploma in Musical Theatre with Raw Dance Company - opening his mind and body up to the world of dance. Owain has performed and taught with RAW on many occasions including at the Brisbane Convention Centre and the Gabba as half time entertainment for the Brisbane Lions.
Owain is one of the newest members of RAW METAL and is wishing to take on the world one hit spring at a time. So far, he has toured in Canada in 2016 and 2017 with RAW METAL, he performed in the Untapped tour all throughout Queensland in 2017 and he has performed at corporate gigs in nearly every capital city of Australia.
DANIELLE FALDT Ballet
Since beginning dancing at the age of 5, Danielle has trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, acrobatics, and gymnastics. Danielle's dance education includes 4 years of full-time dance graduating with Diplomas of Dance from both the Queensland Dance School of Excellence (now known as QB Academy) and Dance Factory in Melbourne, where she was offered a scholarship in her second year.
After completing training, Danielle led an exciting career in teaching and dance performance including dancing with Rove Live; The Cotton Lounge with singer Bobby Valentine; with choreographer Alana Scalan; Melbourne Storm as a cheerleader; as ensemble in the musical Mack & Mable with Caroline O’connor; and 5 years dancing and traveling the world with Princess Cruises. After returning home, Danielle’s love for ballet and teaching saw her complete her Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies with the Royal Academy of Dance, achieving Registered Teacher Status (RTS).
Danielle is also a fully certified Acrobatic Arts teacher, completed her Beginner Gymnastics Coaching qualifications with Gymnastics Australia, and is currently working on her Intermediate Acrobatique certification. Danielle is currently studying a two-year Diploma of Dance Teaching with the RAD to extend her teaching practice, holds a Diploma of Nursing, and worked for 5 years as a nurse in hospital and GP settings. Safe dance practice and providing optimal dance outcomes is a focus for Danielle, and she regularly attends courses with the RAD; acrobatic associations; Lisa Howell dance physiotherapist; other dance related courses; and is a member of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science.
Danielle is a caring and nurturing teacher that works holistically with each student their parents building confidence and personal success. She looks forward to sharing her passion for dance with all of her students!
ABBEY MACKIE Hip Hop
Abbey holds a Certificate III in Dance through her studies at RAW Dance Company where she was mentored by Jack Chambers and Andrew Fee and plans to complete further teacher qualifications this year through the ISTD syllabus and study a Bachelor of Education to further develop her qualifications.
Last year Abbey performed in the David Jones Christmas Parade as well as the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremonies. Over the past years she has performed as a featured dancer in Creative Generations (State Schools Onstage) for four years.
Through her years at Creative Generation she has been mentored by the winners of Australia's Got Talent; Swagamama, the director of Queensland Ballet, Paul Boyd and Rockit Productions.
Abbey has also been volunteering at a local primary school for the past two years, where she has been teaching an choreographing winning eisteddfod routines.
ALLIE MARTIN Drama
Allie started teaching Speech and Drama more than 20 years ago, after studying at Sydney's leading performing arts high school. She holds her Associate (Performance) Diploma with the Australian Guild of Music and Speech and her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Allie's students have consistently received exceptional results in Australian Guild exams and acceptemce into the Perfromance Excellence Showcase (Encore) for Higher School Certificate 2 Unit Drama - Individual Performance (NSW).
HELEN GLINDEMANN Singing
Helen is a graduate of both the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and Queensland University of Technology, she holds a Masters qualification in Education and has been coaching and developing young artists for over 25 years.
Helen also continues to perform in a professional capacity and has a wealth of knowledge, experience and music industry connections to draw upon and share with her proteges.
JEANYA RUSH Hip Hop
Jeanya has trained in Hip Hop for eight years and has been teaching beginner to advanced level choreography for five years. She is currently training and performing with The Homebase Dance Studio and has competed in and choreographed for international competitions such as World of Dance, USASF Cheer and Dance Worlds, Hip Hop International, House of Champions and more.
Jeanya's favourite Hip Hop styles to teach include groove-based choreography, Afro/dancehall and feminine/commercial fusion. "Dancing is my deepest passion and I pride myself on being able to share that with my students while also learning from their unique talent and experiences," she says.
SOPHIE MERTENS Studio Concierge
Sophie started dancing at aged 3 and trained at Premier Dance Academy and later at
Kimberley Woodger Dance Academy. She quickly grew to love ballet, learning the Royal
Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus and successfully completing up to Advanced One level.
She has also trained in other dance styles including jazz, lyrical, contemporary and hip hop.
In 2014 she was accepted into the Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE) and
went on to join the inaugural Queensland Ballet Academy (QBA) dancing the Vaganova
ballet syllabus. She has been mentored by dance alumni, Li Cunxin, Christian Tátchev and
Demi Jenkins. During her final years as a student Sophie competed in many High School
Eisteddfods with her Dance Troupe and has performed at QPAC and the Gardens Theatre
In 2019, she commenced studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance Performance) course at
QUT. As Dance Studio Concierge, she looks forward to welcoming young dancers and their
families to CJS Dance Academy.
